The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #31: “Jealous Guy”- John Lennon. As we near the halfway point in the countdown it is starting to get more difficult in ranking the songs and its not going to get easier. Coming in #31 is John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” from his Imagine album. “Jealous Guy” is a song that John had started to right way back in 1968 when The Beatles were in India- and was originally inspired by a lecture given by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi- and the original title was “Child Of Nature.” The original lyrics would eventually be scrapped and John replaced them with what became “Jealous Guy” in 1971. “Jealous Guy” would eventually become one of John’s most covered songs-at last count 92 covers have been made- the most successful being the Roxy Music one which went to #1 in the UK in 1981. In late 1988 John’s original was released as a single to go along with the documentary Imagine- and peaked at #80 in the Billboard Hot 100.
