Gordon Lightfoot was born in 1938 in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. The folk singer/ songwriter/ guitarist had 11 Hot 100 singles and 6 which made the Top 40 from 1970-82. It seems like he should have had more hits. This was his first hit single. Gordon’s biggest hit #1 “Sundown” 1974. He is still out there now in his 80’s. His debut album came out in 1966. One of the last of the hard core troubadours.
I always loved his voice.
One of the most poignant songs every written.
Superb song. Gordcis close to built into our national DNA up there (at least for those of us growing up in 70s) but I think you’re right…he probably deserved a few more hits outside of Canada.
Classic.
I was lucky enough to see him in concert in Charlotte in 1994.
I have had several opportunities but haven’t. Regret it now.
Love this one. Thanks
