The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #43: “Back Off Boogaloo”- Ringo Starr. “Back Off Boogaloo” was a non-album single released by Ringo Starr in 1972. Although the writing credit went to Ringo- Richard Starkey- his buddy George Harrison [who produced the single}- helped Ringo in the writing of the song. It would become Ringo’s biggest hit in the United Kingdom peaking at #2, in the United States it peaked at #9. There are some who interpreted the lyrics as an attack on Paul McCartney and the music he was making early on in his solo career –

Wake up, meathead
Don’t pretend that you are dead
Get yourself up off the cart.
