Rose Royce was an R&B group from the Los Angeles area- who got their big break when Edwin “War” Starr introduced them to Norman Whitfield- formerly of Motown who was starting up his new company. This was Rose Royce’s first hit- but they weren’t a one -hit wonder- they would have three more Top 40 hits in the next few years. The Car Wash Soundtrack won the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack Album.
I waitressed at Joe’s Crab Shack for a hot min and we had a dance routine for this song! Loved every second of it haha
The first apartment I lived in when I moved to L.A. in 1981 was located less than two miles from the actual car wash where some of the movie’s scenes were filmed.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the movie.. was it any good?
It was okay. I was in my early 20s when I saw it. Would probably find it pretty bad today.
