Short People got an A+?
I dont imagine short people agreeing.
That is a bizarre song and Newman took a lot of flack for it.
A fluke hit for Newman for sure- it turned me on to his excellent earlier work. His album Good Old Boys- one of the 70’s best.
I did enjoy his theme song for Monk. He’s an acquired taste.
He’s a smart ass for sure. He’s 5’11” by the way.
Maybe he considered himself short since he’s under 6′.
Oh my, such a bunch of mellowness at the top of the chart. Had to get pretty far down the list to see any liveliness.
Some good songs in the countdown. You Light Up My Life and Feelings earlier are the ones that even as a kid made me want to punch something.
Ed Zachary.
Agree, some good stuff on here!
Not quite sure I fully get the strong feelings about “You Light Up My Life.” Admittedly, I did have a phase in my younger teenage years where I was into softies, and back then, I liked that tune. While I’m certainly no longer as fond of it, I don’t find it as terrible as you guys apparently do! 🙂
Part of the problem- it was #1 for 10 weeks in a row- turn on the radio and it would be playing. If it had been say a #25 hit that got just regular airplay it wouldn’t have been as bad. It’s funny I think say after 6 months you never heard it again on the radio.
Okay, well, that I can see. While I recall hearing it on the radio in Germany, I don’t remember they played it to death. Overexposure can do a lot of damage to most songs.
I remember it hitting me in the early 80’s- I haven’t heard that song on the radio since it was a hit! I don’t think it still gets much airplay.
Maybe we can fix that…
What do you mean; it’s not broken? 😉
OY. Debbie Boone. I liked the song when it came out. I hate it, now. They wore it out. She’s like the female version of Bobby Goldsboro.
She never had another hit- not that she was a super talent or anything- she was after all the daughter of the talent-less Pat– but I think this hit being so big- everyone was sick of her by the time the single faded off the charts.
She came, she sang, she went away.
Has Max ever talked about Pat & has dad?
Yes! I love that story. Everytime I think of Pat Boone [not often} I think of that!!!
It’s great.
More than a few bad apples in that list – which I sadly remember.
I agree- some real turkey’s that week! best forgotten.
Yes, in my view each generation does something creative in the arts and then business controls and destroys it, money takes over. Sigh.
