The Originals: Songs The Beatles Covered:” A Taste Of Honey”- Lenny Welch. “A Taste Of Honey” was written by Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow-was originally an instrumental written for the 1960 Broadway play of the same name. The first recorded vocal version was by Billy Dee Williams in 1961- but the version by Lenny Welch was released as a single in 1962. Barbra Streisand recorded it on her debut album in 1963. I chose the Lenny Welch version because that was the one which The Beatles heard and adapted when they recorded it for their debut album Please Please Me in the spring of 1963. Paul McCartney would be the lead singer on The Beatles cover. Never one of my favorites.
This version isn’t bad but you’re right the song isn’t all that good.
The best version of this song was the instrumental by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. https://youtu.be/gRGOm071sE0
Had no idea the Beatles did so many covers! All good too.
