It took “A Fifth Of Beethoven” 19 weeks to get to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. 2 million singles were sold. Walter Murphy was born in Manhattan in 1952- he studied classical and jazz piano and was an arranger for Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show orchestra. This was hit only hit. The song of course was based on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
