Marie Dionne Warwick was born in 1940 in East Orange, New Jersey. After finishing the 1960’s strong- the 70’s began very slow for Warwick- From 1970-73 she had only one Top 40 hit- then in 1974 “Then Came You” with The Spinners which went to #1.

  1. The problem was, songs of this style had fallen out of favor by the early 70s, not to mention the fact that this was an insipid tune. “Then Came You” was a hit partly because of the Spinners, but also because it sounded more current.
