Aretha Franklin- Queen of Soul- was born in Memphis in 1942- but raised in Detroit. From 1961-98 she had 73 Hot 100 singles. Her biggest hit was her signature song- her cover of Otis Redding’s “Respect”- #1 in 1967. “Border Song” was a cover of the Elton John song which came out earlier in the year. Elton’s single only went to #92.
Great rendition – what an amazing vocalist Aretha Franklin was.
I would have loved to see her – got very close. I already had a ticket. Then all of her remaining shows were canceled on the order of her doctor. A few months later she passed!
I remember that- your having tickets and it being cancelled. I thought when they cancelled all the remaining shows- something was up. What a talent.
