“I Write The Songs” was written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys. It was first recorded by one of the worst acts in history- Captain and Tennille who had worked with Johnston with The Beach Boys earlier in the decade. David Cassidy then recorded it and had a #11 hit with it in the UK. Barry Manilow is the one who took it big time- to #1- the song would go on to win a Grammy for Song of the Year and was nominated for Record Of The Year- again this tells you a lot about how lame the Grammy Awards were in the 1970’s.
