I have mentioned this the past few weeks but ranking these Dylan albums is getting more and more difficult. I give this soundtrack to the movie Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid- 4 stars- every album from here on out I will be giving 4 – 4 1/2 or 5 stars too. This album which is mostly instrumental songs that go with the movie- does feature one of Dylan’s most famous songs- “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” which went to #12 on the singles chart- a rare Dylan hit. “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” was by the way written after the request came for one more song for the movie. I read a review which stuck in my head about the album- which I must do if I am ever out west again- that this was a great road music listen. The album is a forgotten gem in the Dylan catalog- because it is mainly instrumental- it gets overlooked. It shouldn’t be- a solid 4 star album even without “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”
Either you or Max wrote about this one before. I need to see the movie and hear the soundtrack. Can’t believe another week went by already!
You know how I feel about this one. A CB fave.
I don’t own the soundtrack, but did see the movie a few times, and it is a good one. Nashville Skyline remains my favorite Dylan album, and I have it in storage.
