Ranking All 39 Bob Dylan Studio Albums- #23- “Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid” 1973. Bob Dylan’s 12th studio album. 4 Stars.

The countdown so far 39- Dylan -1973 38- Down In The Groove -1988 37-Knocked Out Loaded- 1986 36-Christmas In The Heart- 2009 35-Under A Red Sky- 1990 34-Saved- 1980 33-Fallen Angels 2016 32- Good As I Been To You- 1992 31- World Gone Wrong 1993 30- Triplicate 2017. 29- Shadows In The Night. 2015 28- Self Portrait 1970- 27- Bob Dylan- Bob Dylan 1962, 26- Empire Burlesque 1985, 25- Street Legal 1978, 24- Nashville Skyline 1969 and now #23- Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid 1973.

I have mentioned this the past few weeks but ranking these Dylan albums is getting more and more difficult. I give this soundtrack to the movie Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid- 4 stars- every album from here on out I will be giving 4 – 4 1/2 or 5 stars too. This album which is mostly instrumental songs that go with the movie- does feature one of Dylan’s most famous songs- “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” which went to #12 on the singles chart- a rare Dylan hit. “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” was by the way written after the request came for one more song for the movie. I read a review which stuck in my head about the album- which I must do if I am ever out west again- that this was a great road music listen. The album is a forgotten gem in the Dylan catalog- because it is mainly instrumental- it gets overlooked. It shouldn’t be- a solid 4 star album even without “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”
