Sedaka Is Back! His second #1 in two years- “Laughter In The Rain” went to #1 in 1974. Uncredited backing vocals on this by Elton John. At this point of the 70’s Elton was ruling the pop singles chart- so having him on it- and he is clearly heard- surely gave the single a boost. “Bad Blood” was replaced by Elton’s “Island Girl” at #1.
I just never cared for this song, and was shocked when it spent 3 weeks at #1. But like you point out, with the red-hot Elton John involved, it was all but certain to be a surefire hit.
