Van McCoy’s music partner Charles Kipps in New York City saw patrons doing a dance called “The Hustle” in the nightclub Adam’s Apple. When hearing about this McCoy wrote this song. It would sell over a million copies and go to #1- and win a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Van McCoy died of a heart attack at the age of 39 in 1979.
