2020 Album Draft- Round 12 Pick 3- Compilation Album- Cincinnati Babyhead selects- Creedence Clearwater Revival- The Best of CCR- Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Well this was a toss up between this album and J Geils. (And a bunch of others). I was looking at the CCR and I started to shake. My body was telling me something. I guess it was telling me CCR. So here it is folks ‘The Best Of CCR Creedence Clearwater Revival’. I cant remember if any of us grabbed some Creedence in our first picks (The Grand Poobah has since told me that no CCR was picked). But we have some now. I have various ‘Best Ofs’, ‘Chronicles’ etc. This is the “Green” one. 28 cuts.
Along with a couple other bands/musicians, I have been listening to these guys longer than any other music I have. Why not? As with most the music I listen to it chooses me and CCR did just that. I can still get into ‘Susie Q’ like it’s the first time I’ve heard it. I still go rock n roll nuts when I hear ‘Travelin Band’ ((I saw Springsteen close his show with it). Not a bad cut on the album (“I guess not CB, ‘It’s the Best Of'”). Fogerty wrote some of the best songs I have. The band was tight and one thing I really dig is when JF wigs out on the guitar. Man does he put his soul into it. Not clean but does he let it rip on songs like ‘Good Golly Miss Molly’. Plus I just love his vocals. What a set of pipes.
All sorts of bands are mentioned when musicians talk about who influenced them. CCR are near the top of those mentions. This band influenced so many and they still do. But hey they were also influenced by others, just check out all the great covers they did. I asked our friend Max ( A fine musician in his own right) if he and his bands ever played CCR songs when gigging in bars. It didn’t take long for him to answer in the affirmative. That’s all I have folks. I love this band and the music they left. There would be a big hole in my record pile (The worlds record pile) if I had no CCR.
