One of my favorite Elton John songs. The song was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin as a favor to tennis great Billie Jean King who at the time was playing for the Philadelphia Freedoms professional tennis team. Other than the title it has nothing to do with tennis. The b-side-the cover of The Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There” is significant because it would be the last time John Lennon appeared on stage- he played with The Elton John Band for three songs during Elton’s Madison Garden concert in NYC on November 28, 1974.
