There were three #1 hits in 1974 that had Rock in its title- ” Rock The Boat”, “Rock Your Baby” and “Rock Me Gently”- none of which had anything to do with Rock music. The Harry Wayne Casey who co-wrote and produced this early disco smash- is the Harry Wayne Casey of KC and The Sunshine Band- which we will meet later in the 70’s with his mindless but somehow popular music. “Rock Your Baby” is one of less than 40 singles which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide- a reported 11 million. Unbelievable. It was McCrea’s debut single- he only had one more Top 40 hit in his career.
I love this song. John Lennon once said he’d have given his eyetooth to have written it. https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/the-classic-disco-song-john-lennon-said-hed-give-anything-to-have-written.html/
It’s a beautiful tune. He sings it just right.
I actually like all three of the “Rock” songs. LOL!
