The highest debuting song on August 29th “For The Good Times” was also written by Kris Kristofferson- who was the hottest new songwriter in 1970. “Sunday Morning Coming Down” won the CMA Award for Song of the Year. “the beer I had for breakfast wasn’t bad so I had one for desert, then i fumbled in my closet for my clothes and I found my cleanest dirty shirt” From 1956-76 Johnny Cash had 48 hot 100 singles and 12 Top 40 hits on the Pop chart- his biggest hit being a #2 the novelty hit “A Boy Named Sue” in 1969. Johnny Cash is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Country and Western Music Hall of Fame- he had 139 country hits in his career.
