Candi Staton- an R&B singer- was born in Hanceville, Alabama in 1940. She had 11 Hot 100 and 2 Top 40 hits- her other Top 40 hit- was her biggest hit “Young Hearts Run Free” #20 1976. “Stand By Your Man’- is a cover of the huge country hit by Tammy Wynette.
I liked Candi Staton. She had a distinctive and recognizable voice. This song’s a decent cover, but Tammy’s is still the best.
Candi had a brilliant run as a Contemporary Christian singer. Met her with Carmen in the 80’s.
I like her cover, but the tempo is a little too fast.
Ah, the Stan Byerman song – love it.
