Major Lance was born in Mississippi in 1939 but raised in Chicago. He was an R&B singer- from 1963-70 he had 12 Hot 100 hits and 6 make the Top 40- his biggest hit #5 “Um, Um, Um, Um, Um” 1964. He died in 1994 at that age of 55. His daughter Keisha Lance Bottoms is currently the Mayor of Atlanta.
