Hans Remembers- Friday September 11, 1970- 50 Years Ago.
- Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the Chevy Vega – today the Ford Pinto- Ford Motor Company’s second compact car- after the Maverick- was introduced in the US and Canada. Ford topped Chevy by selling the Pinto for $170 less than the Vega- at $1919. The first Pinto was sold to an elementary school teacher- a Mr. Pinto who lived in– Pinto, Maryland.
- A tornado in Venice, Italy killed 36 and injured over 500.
- Manson Family member Charles “Tex “Watson was extradited to California after being held in Texas on a different charge- the charge he was facing in California- the August 1969 stabbing murders of actress Sharon Tate and six others. 50 years later at the age of 74 he is still serving his life sentence in a California prison.
Hans, feel free to delete this comment, but a bullet to the back of his head would have been a better end to “Tex” than living on CA taxpayers’ dime for all of these years. Two wrongs don’t make a right but what he did was beyond wrong.
50 years- I think a couple of the girls are still in prison too- all those years.
😦 :::smh:::
For me it is a classic study on both cults and the hypnotic power of some psychopaths.
My sister’s old car was a Vega. She would keep a case of oil in the hatch back because it would burn it that fast. It was a good looking car though. Silver with a racing stripe down the middle.
OMG! I owned a Vega, and yes it was orange! Worst car I’ve ever owned. Eventually paid a friend a case of beer to take it off my hands.
That says a lot you had to add a case of beer to the deal to get your friend to TAKE IT!
The beer bribe followed futile attempts for someone, anyone to steal it. Oh man, I tried! Left it unlocked in high crime areas, windows down, tempting faux packages on the back seat. Not so much as a nibble! Hugs
That is crazy- when you think how people will steal anything!
I know! My Honda Civic was stolen twice. FYI – I now drive a 1992 Caprice Classic station wagon. Mint condition, chrome spoke wheels, longer than a cargo van from tip to toe, fold up full size rear facing back row of seating – so cool! Not another like it in Vancouver. People literally stop and point as it passes by.
OMG. Wow.
