A September of Demento- “They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa”- Napoleon XIV. This crazy novelty song by Jerry Samuels- who billed himself as Napoleon XIV- peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1966 and #4 in the UK Singles chart. As a child I was a fool for these kind of novelty songs- I remember digging this when I was 6 or 7. Samuels is still active today- at age 82 in the Delaware Valley area as a singer and agent.

  1. My parents liked that one. Think Casey Kasem once said it took biggest one week drop in top 40 history or something like that…guess it’s humor wore thin by 100th time people heard it that month…
