A September of Demento- Dr. Demento is the one who gave Weird Al his big break by playing “My Bologna” on his show- the parody of The Knack’s “My Sharona.” Weird Al came up with this parody when he was still in college. Released at the end of 1979- it would eventually top the Dr. Demento Funny Five chart. Weird Al earlier that fall had approached The Knack with the song and Knack front man Doug Fieger loved the song and said to a Capital Records man that they should put out the song- and they did but they didn’t promote it and it sold only 10,000 copies.
