Early on in his solo career Ringo Starr did quite well-especially in the singles chart- of course not being a songwriter himself he had a little help from his friends- in this case while the song is credited to Ringo and George Harrison- but the music was written mainly by George. “Photograph” is one of my favorite ex- Beatles singles. It was on his most successful album- the self-titled Ringo. George and Ringo started writing “Photograph”- on a yacht after attending Mick Jagger’s wedding in France. There were a number of guests on the yacht which Ringo had hired and a number of people contributed to the lyrics. It would be Ringo’s first #1- he would have 2 #1’s in the US- and he did have a string of eight straight singles which made the Top 10.
Love, love, love this song. I’ve been fortunate enough to see Ringo with several iterations of his All-Star Band (seven times, if memory serves), and this song is always a highlight for me.
Good song. Thanks for reminding me of it!
I specifically remember buying this 45 at Montgomery Wards. 🙂
Montgomery Wards- haven’t thought of that store in years– along with Woolworths.
excellent song! I dind’t know George co-wrote it, that explains some.
I can hear the Geo influence in this, with the catchy mantra. Ringo had more hits than I ever gave him credit for.
