Was saddened last night to hear of the passing of singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle. His father Steve Earle is on my Mount Rushmore of music artists and I have also followed Justin’s career from his first album. He was quite a songwriter himself. Imagine at birth carrying the last name of Earle and the middle name of another great songwriter- Townes Van Zandt. Justin had battled addiction since his teenage years. Thirty-eight is much too young.
Justin released eight albums from his debut in 2008 until his final album last year. My favorite songs of his- is from my favorite album of his- the title track from Harlem River Blues- released in 2010.

You are just getting started at 38. I saw his reviews for his last album last year were really good..it’s a shame.
Very sad news. Loved his debut performance on Letterman.
Thanks for sharing
I can’t “like” this. What a terrible loss to the world. Drug addiction is a black hole many never crawl out of for long 😦
Steve Earle at the same age served a brief time in prison for drugs- he would later say it was a good thing- he came out clean- for some reason he was able to survive. Sadly for Justin- he didn’t.
I like both his and his dads music. A lot.
I’m not familiar with them at all, but what a nice, mellow song you posted.
Creativity is a double-edged sword for so many. It’s extremely sad that such passion, for whatever it is, gets cut short.
