“Killing Me Softly With His Song”- was written by Charles Fox and Norman GImbel in collaboration with singer-songwriter Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by attending a Don McLean concert in 1971. She released her version of the song in 1972 but Roberta Flack was the one who took it to #1 and won Grammy’s for it for- Record Of The Year and Best Female Pop Performance. A remake by The Fugees won a Grammy in 1997 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with vocal. Rolling Stone ranked Flack’s version at #360 on their 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. Roberta Flack was everywhere in the first half of the 70’s-winning awards/ having hits- then by the end of the decade seemed to have vanished.
