- It continues to amaze me the past couple years doing this -50 Years Ago feature the number of airplane crashes that occurred back then- compared to today. On this day all 26 occupants and 4 crew of Pakistan International Airlines Flight 625 were killed when the Fokker F27 Friendship plane crashed six minutes after taking off from Rawalpindi during a severe thunderstorm with a scheduled destination of Lahore.
- A bill to create the independent U.S. Postal Service and abolish the existing U.S. Post Office Department passed Congress after being approved in the U.S. House- the bill had been proposed by POTUS Richard Milhous Nixon. It was the most sweeping reform in the postal services 181 year history.
