The Who while an album band more than a singles band- did have 26 Hot 100 singles from 1965-82- with 16 making the Top 40. “Summertime Blues” is a cover of the Eddie Cochran classic which was on their classic Live At Leeds album.
As much as I respect and like Eddie Cochran… this is my go-to version of this song…they stood the song on it’s ear.
Both versions are great- but I have to agree The Who transport the song into something entirely different.
Just recently listened to this. I like it. The first cover I heard was Blue Cheer’s version. Do you have a favorite cover?
I think I have to go with The Who’s Live at Leeds version! I do love the original. A great song.
Good choice. Hope you’re doing well!
Side note: Watched a bit of Quadrophenia last week. Good movie.
I know this one.
Try Levon Helms version. Being a Band guy you’ll dig it.
