The Honey Cone was an R&B soul girl group led by Edna Wright- the sister of Darlene Love. They had a total of seven Billboard Hot 100 hits- “Want Ads” was their first Top 40 hit- and only #1. General Norman Johnson who was brought in to help with the writing of “Want Ads” was the leader of Chairmen Of The Board. The song was first recorded by another group on the Hot Wax label- Glass House- whose big hit was “Crumbs Off The Table.” They didn’t care for the song and Edna Wright was asked to record it – as she was passing through the studio one day. #1 hit.
