How appropriate -when you think of Peter, Paul and Mary you think of the 1960’s- and on the next to last week of that 1960’s- Peter, Paul and Mary end the decade with their final chart single- and only #1 of their careers. Overall from 1962-69 they had 18 Hot 100 singles. The group was formed in Greenwich Village- Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. “Leaving On A Jet Plane” was written and first performed by John Denver back in 1966. You may remember the song on United Airlines commercials back in the 70’s. That’s how I first remember hearing it.
I wasn’t crazy about this song when it came out, but like it more now.
Brings back memories. 🎶
This is a song that transports me back to when I first heard it. I’ve always loved it. I had no idea it was their only #1.
