30 DAY SONG CHALLENGE: DAY 10: A SONG FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD: “WICHITA LINEMAN”- GLEN CAMPBELL

Nostalgia Is Evil - Music Reviews: Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 10: A Song From Your Childhood: “Wichita Lineman”- Glen Campbell.

“Wichita Lineman” is such a great song that a year ago someone wrote a book about it and being such a fan of the song as soon as I saw it on the shelves I scooped it up. I wasn’t disappointed it was a very good read. This is a timeless song. My first memories of hearing it are as a child riding in the car with my father. He was a country music fan and in the late 1960’s this was a staple on the radio. It was one of those songs that even at 7 years old on first listen I loved. I’ve never gotten tired of hearing it over the past 50 plus years. One of my Top 10 favorite songs of all times.

  1. I’ve always loved it too. That opening little guitar riff by Wrecking Crew member Carol Kaye is sublime, and the stirring strings are so breathtaking, they still have the power to bring tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. It’s my favorite song from Glen Campbell, and one of my favorites of the 1960s.

  2. Such a great song, beautifully sung. Speaking as an Englishman who’s had a lifelong love of Americana, this song evokes so many images of the Midwest in my mind. Thanks for drawing my attention to it again.
