The Raelettes were the female back up vocal group for the great Ray Charles. They had 3 Hot 100 singles from 1967-71 none of which made the Top 40.
I never knew the Raelettes recorded on their own away from Ray !
When I was a youngster and heard Hit the Road Jack on the radio in 1961, something came over me and I decided my calling in life was to be a Raelette . . . hahaha
Mind you, I was a preteen white kid in white-bread suburbia with no musical talent, black music was Not in our house, and didn’t know any black folks then. It’s a funny memory to me now
