10 Albums That Influenced My Musical Taste: Day 10: The final album I have chosen is The Velvet Underground’s self-titled debut. This album didn’t sell many copies- none of the Velvet Underground albums did- but they are highly influential -Brian Eno once said that the first Velvet Underground album sold only 10,000 albums but everyone who bought it started their own band. The Velvet Underground to me was an introduction to the grimier side of life. I grew up in a small town. This was my introduction to the city. I’ve always kind of listened to The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed’s solo albums as soundtracks to New York City.

I bought a second-hand copy of this album at a small off-campus record shop in 1972 or thereabouts. I wish it was still in my collection.
I went back to this after I found Cale and Lou.
