Astrid Kircherr- the German photographer and artist best known as a friend of The Beatles during their stay playing in Hamburg in the early 1960 has died at 82 following a short illness. Astrid met The Beatles bass player at the time Stuart Sutcliffe and they were later engaged. Stuart died tragically in 1962 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Astrid took many iconic photographs of the young Beatles during their stay in Germany. She is also credited with inventing the famous Beatles moptop haircut although she denied it. She also gave The Beatles a sense of style in the clothes that they wore.

I read the book A Twist of Lennon, which was written by Cynthia Lennon. It mentioned Astrid. Paul and Ringo are still going strong. Ringo used to live relatively local to me. My brother told of him once turning up at a pub he was visiting to collect his (Ringo’s) son, Zak? who was obviously not meant to be in the pub at the time and was therefore in trouble. I note Zak is now married with children of his own. I wonder if any of them sneaked off to the local pub, like their father, Zak.
Great story!
I just checked Ringo’s son is indeed called Zak and he is also a drummer. Come to think of it I do think that Zak was actually playing drums in the pub when his father came to get him.
Zak is 54.. how can that be? Wow.
Gee I suppose he must be. Please don’t tell me, it all happened 30 or 40 years ago. Seems like yesterday.
Loved hearing about her.
