Song Of The Day Challenge- Day 7- A Song That’s Covered By Another Artist. Written and first performed by Leonard Cohen-“Hallelujah” has been over the years a much covered song. Most people seem to go with Jeff Buckley’s version as the best and it is fantastic- but my favorite has always been by former Velvet Underground member- John Cale.

There is not a version of this song I don’t love. As a Canadian, I appreciate kd lang’s version and have heard her perform it live twice. It raises goosebumps and hair on one’s arms.
I agree a great song- the original often gets overlooked .
Yes, Leonard Cohen had a way with words. What I like about this song is each performers gets to put their imprint on it from an artistic point of view. In that way, kd, John Cale, Leonard Cohen, etc. each make it sound somewhat different.
As a fellow Canadian, I agree. When k.d. lang sings this song, I get chills. It’s a beautiful song and many people have done it justice, but in my mind, no one can sing it like k.d. lang can.
She placed it at an interesting point in the concerts we saw, in the middle. Once we saw her in the US and it had the same result, a standing ovation.
She has such a great voice!
A beautiful performance for sure.
