Hans Remembers- Monday April 20, 2020- 50 Years Ago.

- President Richard Milhous Nixon announced that he would order the withdrawal of 150,000 American troops from South Vietnam over the next year as part of the process of turning conduct of the Vietnam War over to the South Vietnamese people. Ten days later Nixon reversed his decision and announced that troop strength would not be decreased and that the war would expand into Cambodia.

- In the NBA the New York Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the semifinals 4 games to 1- earning the right to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. Los Angeles a day earlier had defeated the Atlanta Hawks to earn their way in to the finals.

- It wasn’t a good month for federal judge G. Harrold Carswell. Less than two weeks after having his nomination rejected by the U.S. Senate for the U.S. Supreme Court- Carswell decided to resign his lifetime appointment as a federal judge to run for a seat in the U.S. Senate from Florida. Carswell would fail in his effort losing by a huge margin to become the Republican nominee.
The Vietnam War was a disaster and a colossal waste of treasury and human lives.
Very sad- the lives lost and the lives destroyed. For nothing but the pride of leaders.
