MY MUSIC LISTENING JOURNAL: DAY 105/ 366: TUESDAY APRIL 14,2020

My Music Listening Journal: Day 105/366: Thursday April 14, 2020.

  • ROGER MILLER: THE AMAZING: 1967: 2 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL ALBUM: Early Roger Miller- released after he had hit it big. There was no real info on the album cover- no liner notes etc- so when the album was over I looked to see who wrote the songs- I knew many were covers- and wasn’t surprised to see that there were two Roger Miller authored songs- and they were the two best on the album “Playboy” and “Poor Little John.”

  • DAVE MASON: LET IT FLOW: 1977: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL ALBUM: Back in 1977 one of my favorite singles- this was when I was first getting into music seriously- was “We Just Disagree”which went to #12 on the singles chart. I didn’t get this album until January but I did buy the single back then. Pretty good album.

  • ROGER MILLER: GOLDEN HITS: 1965: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL ALBUM: There would be more great songs to come but this best of released in the 1965 captures the great Miller hits of 1964-65. 12 songs- including “King Of The Hill”, “Dang Me”, England Swings”- all essentials. I bought the Roger Miller 3 CD box set back in the 1990’s when it came out- and recently have been finding old Miller albums at used record shops and have been buying every one I see -that is in good shape.

  1. I love ROGER MILLER! So many great songs, “Atta Boy Girl,” “King of the Road” “You Can’t Rollerskate…” and “Dang Me” are all my favorites. Even if he didn’t write the songs (don’t you hate when there’s no liner notes — urgh!!) his deliverance is so retro cool. Thanks for featuring him today!

    • Yes you can’t beat Roger Miller- and I agree even songs he didn’t write he covers well! Love his songwriting and humor- gone far too soon.
