Clarence Carter was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1936. He lost his sight at the age of one. Carter self taught himself to play guitar at age 11. He would go on to have 16 Hot 100 singles with 4 making the Top 40- his biggest hit being “Patches” which came later in 1970. There is an Anthology album of his best songs out there that I would highly recommend- a greater artist than the amount of hits he had. Was once married to Candi Staton- “Young Hearts Run Free.”
