Just woke up to see the sad news that– singer-songwriter John Prine has died at 73 from COVID-19. Attached an article just out from Rolling Stone.

I have been reading lots of news about him and saw various video tributes one including from Joan Baez and supposedly Dylan was a a great admirer too. I don’t think I had come across any of his music.
Its interesting he only had a couple albums that even cracked the Top 100 album chart- his final album a couple years ago was by far his biggest making the Top 10– he never had a song make the Top 100 singles chart- but was a universally loved songwriter- by other songwriters. I didn’t know this but the film critic Roger Ebert discovered him- he was at a movie- the popcorn was too salty and he left- going into a bar and a singing mailman was playing- he was so impressed he wrote a review of it in the paper- and John Prine’s career was off!
Fascinating. I saw a documentary about the film critic Roger Ebert a few years back. So it just took a single review from him huh. Well sometimes that’s just all it takes. Thanks for filling me in Hans. Cheers.
Kris Kristofferson is often credited as having ‘discovered” John Prine but John Prine always said it was Ebert.
OK. Interesting. You certainly know your music trivia Hans! I’m going to try abd look up some of Prine’s music then.
I’d recommend his first album to start off with- John Prine! Hope you enjoy.
I will look it up. Thanks a bunch Hans.
The one I know and love:
