- Phil Spector who was brought in to produce the mess that The Beatles had recorded a year earlier- completed editing and mixing for the Let It Be album- 16 months after The Beatles had started what was then the Get Back project.
- Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to challenge the obligation of individual participation in the Vietnam War as unconstitutional as Governor Francis Sargent signed the “War Bill” which passed in both houses of the state legislature the day before. The bill declared that no resident of Massachusetts ‘shall be required to serve outside of the territorial limits of the United States in the conduct of armed hostilities not an emergency and not otherwise authorized .
- Janis Joplin got a tattoo on her wrist and chest- the one on the chest reading “One For The Boys”
- Former MLB pitcher Jon Lieber who pitched for the Pirates, Cubs and Phillies from 1994-2008 turns 50 today. Lieber’s best year was with the Cubs in 2001 when he won 20 and lost 8. Overall his record was 131-124 with an ERA of 4.27.
