Joe South born Joe Souter in 1940 in Atlanta was a session guitarist for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel. His biggest hits both went to #12- “Games People Play” 1969 and “Don’t It Make You Want To Go Home” 1970. Overall he had 8 Hot 100 hits and those two Top 40 hits. He also wrote songs that were hits for others including “Rose Garden” and “Down In The Boondocks.” Joe South died in 2012 at the age of 72.
