“The Theme From Shaft” from 1971- was the biggest hit in the career of Isaac Hayes peaking at #2. The single version of the song was edited to 3:15 in length the album version was 4:34. It was written by Hayes and released on the great Stax label. “Theme From Shaft” the album was the soundtrack from the blaxploitation film starting Richard Roundtree. The song one the Academy Award for Best Original Song- Hayes becoming the first African-American to win an Oscar in a non-acting category.
It’s a really good song. I remember when Shaft came out and how popular the movie and the song were.
It’s a classic. I loved listening to the album version. I had a lot of time on my hands back then.
