HANS REMEMBERS- FRIDAY MARCH 6, 1970- 50 YEARS AGO

FDNY responds to Weatherman townhouse explosion.jpg

  • Three members of the American terrorist group The Weathermen- blew themselves up in New York City when they were constructing a pipe bomb- which prematurely exploded. The group was housed in a four story townhouse in Greenwich Village when shortly before noon dynamite in one of the bombs exploded and triggered secondary gas lines. Diana Oughton and Terry Gold who were in the basement working on the pipe bomb were instantly killed along with Ted Gold who had just walked into the house. Years later group member Mark Rudd would write that the plans were to place the bomb at a dance hall where U.S. servicemen and their dates would have attended a dance in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Kind of hard to shed any tears over these deaths.
