The Shocking Blue from The Hague, Holland had but two Hot 100 singles in their career this one which just fell short of the Top 40 and their huge #1 hit “Venus” in 1969.
Good one! Don’t think I’ve heard it before. They are a very attractive looking group of musicians.
Love this song…this and “Never Marry A Railroad Man.”
Those two should have at least been hits…not top 10 but a little higher.
Cool tune. I guess I’m one of most music fans who essentially only know Shocking Blue because of “Venus,” which I’ve always loved.
My streaming music provider also calls out another great song called “Send Me a Postcard,” noting the striking similarity of the opening riff to Iron Butterfly’s “In-a-Gadda-da-Vida.” I have to admit they are right. This tune nicely rocks and would have deserved to be a hit.
From what I’ve heard of them- I can’t figure out why they were just a one hit wonder. Good stuff.
Completely agree. In fact, I listened to their sophomore album (the one with Venus) this morning, and the first with Mariska Veres, who was a great vocalist. Nice mix of garage and psychedelic rock. It all reminded me a bit of Jefferson Airplane.
Yes agree on Mariska-should have been a big star.
