- Sly and The Family Stone played Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. The show ran hours late- and the fans ended up causing a thousand dollars in damages- The Daughters Of The American Revolution then impose a ban against any more rock concerts at the venue.
- All 102 people on board the Dominicana Airlines jet from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico were killed in a crash. Shortly after take off the twin engine plane lost its right engine. As the pilot was preparing for a return to the airport- the left engine failed too and the plane crashed into the Caribbean Sea.
