Eddie Floyd is most famous for his song “Knock On Wood” which was a #28 hit in 1968- but was a #1 when covered by Amii Stewart in 1979. Floyd an R&B singer/songwriter was born in 1937 in Alabama but was raised in Detroit. He was an founder of The Falcons 1955-61. He signed with Stax in Memphis in 1965. His biggest solo hit was #17 Bring It On Home To Me” #17 1968. Floyd was more noted as a songwriter – having teamed up with Steve Cropper to write songs for Wilson Pickett- “Ninety-Nine And A Half” and “634-5789” and “Raise Your Hand” which was later covered by Janis Joplin and Bruce Springsteen- among other songs.
