Clarence Carter an R&B singer- guitarist and songwriter was born in Alabama in 1936- he has been blind since the age of one. He taught himself to play guitar at age 11. Was at one time married to singer Candi Staton -“Young Hearts Run Free.” Carter had 16 Hot 100 hits from 1967-73- 4 make the Top 40. His biggest hit “Patches” #4 later in 1970.
