I can’t say I am was ever a fan of Huey Lewis And The News- I have thought their music rather pedestrian- but I never hated his music either- pleasant enough. It’s not like The Eagles the most overrated group ever [even more overrated than The Doors} Article below from Esquire on Huey and the hearing loss issues he’s been dealing with. Hopefully his problems are soon resolved. He has a new album coming out later in the week- his first since 2001.
I sort of liked his congenial nature.
But he definitely received the fame that would have been better placed on Delbert McClinton.
Nothing against Huey.
How sad for him. Life can sure throw some lousy shit our way as we age. I always liked his music, though it was pretty formula. He and his band were just so likable.
Fascinating article Hans. How ironic that a life time pop star didn’t lose his hearing from excessive volume exposure but from this mysterious disease. I saw him open for 38 Special in Philly in 83 – talk about a contrast. I always liked his early stuff – checked out by the time of Hip to be Square. Boy would I have loved to see SRV open for him!
I never was a fan but I sure hope he’s coming back strong. Many of us from the “older music era” are gone like my friend Glenn Fry while the rest of us continue to ply out craft and rail against time.
Huey Lewis was/is a mainstay of easy listening and “adult rock” radio stations.
But it’s very sad (and strange) when people lose or damage the thing they use the most to do their thing, whatever it may be. Like Beethoven went deaf, right? Not comparing Huey to Beethoven, but still…
And everyone must have seen the Linda Rondstadt documentary recently, right, and how she can’t sing anymore. There was a famous painter who began to lose his sight. I hope it works out for Mr. Lewis.
I have that Ronstadt doc from the library but haven’t seen it yet- heard it was pretty good… that does seem to happen quite often.
It happens to all of us, in different ways.

I want to say it’s part of life, but….. makes me mad and sad, still.
