With “I’m Leaving It Up To You” replacing Nino Tempo and April Stevens “Deep Purple” at #1 on the charts- it was the first time one duet replaced another at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  It was the #1 song the weekend of the JFK assassination. For those assassination conspiracy folks- Dale & Grace were both in Dallas the day of the assassination- so was Milhous.  Dale, Grace, Bobby Vee and Brian Hyland were on the sidewalk waving at JFK as he passed by, went back to their hotel and didn’t hear the shots that happened moments later.

Dale & Grace were Dale Houston from Mississippi and Grace Broussard from near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They had 3 Hot 100 and 2 Top 40 hits 1963-64- their other Top 40 hit went to #8 “Stop and Think It Over.” The duo separated in 1965 due to personal problems between the two, Broussard’s homesickness and Houston’s illness.

In 1974 the dynamic duo- Donny and Marie too “I’m Leaving It Up To You” to #4 on the chart.

    • From what I read- those musicians didn’t find out until a few hours later… which is kind of hard to believe. … Yes that would have been terrible to have been there.
