The first Hot 100 single in The Carpenters career- from their debut album. An odd selection if you asked me. The Carpenters- a brother-sister duo Richard and Karen Carpenter would win the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1970- they would have a #1 hit that year in “Close To You” and a #2 with “We’ve Only Just Begun.” In their career they would have 28 Hot 100 singles 20 Top 40 hits, 12 Top 10 hits and three #1’s- “Close To You”, “Top Of The World” 1973 and “Please Mr. Postman” in 1974.
we just picked up The Carpenters – Then and Now album at the thrift store for 2 bucks. one side is their hits, the b side is their cover versions of oldies. Great gem in a coal mine of records.
A steal for #2! You never know what you might find!
While nowhere near as good as the original, I still think their version is pretty good.
This is so much softer than the Beetles version and I love the symphony sound. Karen had such a lovely voice.
Its like a totally different song.
I love her voice but this one is just too mellow for me.
Off Topic…it went through and the Dodgers got the “injured” player…The Dodgers had to send Jeter Downs…a prospect they picked up from the Reds last year for Puig…
The trade that will send right-hander Kenta Maeda and cash to the Minnesota Twins for right-hander Brusdar Graterol and the 67th pick in the draft — which has around a $1 million slot value — has been agreed upon, source confirms to ESPN. @Ken_Rosenthal was first with the deal.
