Actor Robert Conrad dead at 84. He starred in the television series Wild Wild West and Ba Ba Black Sheep- and other television shows and movies but when I hear the name I always think first of the Eveready Batteries Commercial- below.

WOW!!!!!! So sad. He was an icon.
God, I’m feeling ever older with the passing of every star & musician of my youth.
Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm he was so good looking! So funny the calculator and cassette players. May he rest in peace.
He must have retired some time ago- a name I haven’t come across in some time- maybe a couple decades?
I think he was in a western many moons ago with another guy whose name escapes me. You’re right it has been decades.
He had some show going on in the 70’s but its escaping me now.
“Wild Wild West”

I recall watching a few episodes of that and not really liking it..
I’ll never forget Bob Conrad getting all fired up about an alleged rule infraction on “Battle of the Network Stars” in 1976 and having a 100-yard race-duel with Gabe Kaplan (Welcome Back Kotter). Kaplan crushed him. Just found and watched the video on YouTube. Conrad always seemed to have a chip/battery on his shoulder.
Ah- I forgot all about that incident until you just mentioning it. I agree he did seem to have a chip on his shoulder. Those shows seem funny now- The Battle of the Network Stars and the Superstars competition. As a kid I remember taking them seriously lol… favorite highlight of Superstars- was Smokin’ Joe Frazier in the swimming- walking instead of swimming and being disqualified. Turns out he didn’t know how to swim.
Yeah, poor Joe was in over his head.
LOL!… I never knew if Kyle Rote Jr was any good at soccer but he seemed to win that Superstar’s competition every time..
Kyle Rote, Jr.! That’s a name I haven’t heard in a LONG time. He and Pele were the ONLY soccer players Americans could name. I remember Rote Sr. doing the commentary on NFL games. Very reserved and soft-spoken.
Yes at that time soccer was certainly an underground sport in the US. I think you are right at the time I could name Pele and because of Superstars- Rote Jr. Thinking about it now- Rote Jr had to have been a pretty good athlete- and with a father who was a football star- odd that he went for a sport that certainly wasn’t a front line sport in the US at the time. He must have loved soccer. Won Superstars 3 times in 4 years.
